It’s the only time of year you’ll catch a sea monster peeking out of the harbour!
Still our favourite Mousehole attraction on a chilly winter’s evening, the village’s Christmas lights shine bright every night from mid-December to early January.
Now in their 51st year, the magical lights include over 40 lighting displays including multi-coloured tableaux and strings of twinkling bulbs.
It’s the only time of year you’ll catch a sea monster peeking out of the harbour, and he’s accompanied by a host of colourful characters around and about, including Santa and his reindeer on the hillside. A dove of peace with an olive branch in its beak watches over the village.
Switch on night has a great party atmosphere. The village is closed to non-local traffic and the whole community turns out to join the fun.
Local knowledge: The lights are turned off for one hour on December 19th (8-9pm) as a mark of respect for the Penlee Lifeboat disaster of 1981 when 16 people lost their lives.
